Dragon Ball Super: How is Super Saiyan Blue different from Super Saiyan God?

The Dragon Ball franchise has introduced several power-ups and transformations throughout its run. Dragon Ball Super unveiled two incredibly significant transformations, Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue.

While both forms present Goku and Vegeta with god-like powers, they function quite differently.

Origin and Nature

Super Saiyan God was introduced during the Battle of Gods arc in the anime. To achieve this form, a ritual involving six pure-hearted Saiyans is required.

The one at the center of the ritual will temporarily gain the power of the gods, signified by a slimmer physique, red hair, and a fiery aura. It was a form that gave Goku the power to face off against Beerus, the God of Destruction, for the first time.

After Goku and Vegeta trained under Beerus and his attendant, Whis, they achieved the power to tap into god-like ki while using their Super Saiyan forms.

The result is Super Saiyan Blue aka Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. It combines the raw strength of a Super Saiyan with the calm, controlled ki of a god.

Power and Control

While SS God provides a significant boost, SS Blue takes that power and amplifies it.

The blue form is essentially the combination of the warrior’s base power when amplified as a Super Saiyan, merged with the calm and potent god-like ki.

One of the critical aspects that make SS Blue superior is the degree of control it offers.

God-like ki is about precision and not letting energy leak out. SS Blue allows the user to utilize this controlled energy, minimizing waste and ensuring maximum efficiency in battle.

SS God, during its initial introduction, was temporary. Goku could only maintain it for a short period before reverting to his base form.

In contrast, the Blue form does not have this strict time limitation, making it more suitable for prolonged battles. While SS Blue is immensely powerful, it’s worth noting that it places a considerable strain on the user’s body.

Maintaining the form requires immense energy and can wear out the user if overused. However, given the significant power advantage it offers, this trade-off is often deemed worthy.

SS Blue, as a transformation, has shown the potential to grow and evolve. As Goku and Vegeta continued their training, they managed to refine and push the limits of this form, making it even more potent.

This adaptability gives SS Blue an edge as it can be enhanced further with training. The calm and controlled nature of god-like ki in the Blue form allows the user to quickly adapt and change tactics during battle.

While SS God was a significant leap in Saiyan evolution, introducing the heroes to the realm of the gods, SS Blue represents a perfect marriage of Saiyan strength and god-like control.

The Blue form, with its immense power, adaptability, and refined ki control, undoubtedly stands as a superior transformation in Dragon Ball Super.
